Adventures in Americana: "when the day breaks" Virtual Listening Party

Listen and Read along as Jacson Miller and I discuss the new album track by track

You only have to know a sliver of the backstory to my new album to know that these songs were hard to write, hard to share, hard to sit with. And yet, when I embarked on the recording journey, as I knew I must, they became something much easier to carry. Born from my own need to process and heal, the making of the album was as much an act of self preservation as any of my creative endeavors to date. At first, I never intended to share the songs with anyone at all... but at a certain point, I simply felt called to. Knowing full well this would not be an album for the faint of heart, I wasn't sure who, if anyone, would listen. So you can imagine my surprise when Jacson Miller reached out hoping to do an interview. Talking to Jacson about his take on the album and diving deeper into the meaning behind these songs was an experience I didn't know I needed. I don't know how to articulate what it means to me that folks like Jacson are not only listening, but finding this collection deeply resonant; I'll spare you my attempt to do so and, instead, invite you to read the full article over at Adventures in Americana.

New Album out January 10!

When the Day Breaks

In the works for nearly four years, When the Day Breaks is a collection of songs Emmy wrote after losing a loved one to addiction/overdose. An intimate approach to the brevity and beauty of all things, the album weaves themes of grief, addiction, spiritual struggle, healing and redemption with album arrangements that effortlessly move between unadorned eloquence and delightful intricacy. Recorded and co-produced by her dear friend Taylor James Donskey with musical contributions by long time collaborators  Jake Johnson (violin) and Rosie Harris (cello) the tracks are as lyrically striking and expressive as any of Emmy's work to date.

You may order your copy of the album by emailing emmy: (emmywoodsmusic@gmail.com). Profits from CD sales will go towards harm reduction efforts in the Minneapolis community.
